Less than one month away from the release of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and a demo is available for download. Let me tell you all now, the demo is worth the play through
For those of you familiar with the Metal Gear Solid series, let me tell you now that you should not expect the same thing. Sure, you can be sneaky if you want, and literally sneak up behind an enemy and chop their head off in one swing, but there’s really no reason to since the fun is in the fight. Raiden is deadly when it comes to combat and he’s able to slice through most enemies with ease. Raiden’s sword attacks are fun to watch and his kick attacks, that all feature his sword still, are different from the normal kick attacks and they are very cool to see. The attacks aren’t limited to a standing combat. Raiden has running, jumping, and sliding attacks. The best part is that you can activate Blade Mode from the jumping, sliding, or standing postion.
Blade mode is Raiden’s ability to quickly cut through anything. Everything but Raiden slows down (of course it really means that his actions speed up) and you can slice through anything within range at super speeds. You can cut in any direction and as long as Blade Mode is active, you can cut your enemies into as many pieces as possible. After one play through the demo, I’ve cut a box in 142 pieces and an enemy into 46. Oh and it gets better. In the full game, you’ll be able to get new moves and upgrades.
There are very few aspects of the original Metal Gear Solid gameplay still available. For instance, Raiden will take random phone calls during a mission. Also, the sound made when Snake was detected is made whenever Raiden walks into the enemies line of vision. Even though the game is so different, those little tidbits help you remember that this is still a Metal Gear game.
This may be just a demo but I can tell you that it’s exactly as good as we’ve thought it would be. On February 19th, when Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is released, you’d better be on your way to pick up your copy of what’s going to be an instant classic.
