The coveted honor of being the Castle Champion is up for grabs! Players must battle against fearsome enemies such as the Cerberus, Minotaur, and other medieval menaces in the Amateur and Pro Leagues to claim the prestigious title. Train an army with warriors of nine different character classes, including Mages, Crusaders and Paladins, as well as one of six Heroes serving as team captain to increase the army’s battle prowess!

The army, of course, would not exist without a formidable castle in which to train. Players must build a castle from the ground up to house not just their warriors but also civilians who will earn the player valuable gold and crystals for being employed in the castle’s businesses. Heroes must also be ready at all times to repel the horde of castle invaders!

Stay tuned to Nineoverten.com come March 14th for the launch announcement, and see you in Castle Champions.

Authenticity

This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow,

as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.

- William Shakespeare (1564 – 1616) Hamlet. Act 1. Sc. 3.

Inundated by fakes and sophisticated counterfeits, people increasingly see the world in terms of real or fake. Authenticity: keeping it real, honest, genuine and true, is all the rage these days. It is becoming the new sensibility in postmodern culture and human condition as a new quality. We crave for true heart: meaning of inherent classical worth in the world where false and exaggerations are rampant. We all demand what is real.

Contemporary industrial and information societies are being commodified and virtualized, with everyday life becoming saturated with “toxic levels of inauthenticity that we are forced to breathe”. Most emails we get are not from people we know or feel we should trust; friends are not “really” friends unless we confirm them on our Myspace or Facebook accounts. Their list goes on with an underlying theme rooted in technology and consumption. In a visual age, we are often provoked by newfangles and enjoy them each day. However, very few contents could be touching and long lasting among them. This seems that contexts have been forgotten or disappeared. We begin to add extra values by wrapping up the essence of contents. People assign the value to looks, package, style and fashion rather than quality and availability.

Authenticity is to be understood as an inherent quality of some object, person or process. Because is it inherent, it is neither negotiable nor achievable. Authenticity cannot be stripped away, nor can it be appropriated. In short, the object, person or process in question either is authentic or is not, period. It is the hot commodity in our society. The thing is, it is not something you can concoct and sell. It is not another mask, persona or costume behind which to hide. Genuine authenticity is a challenge to enact on a regular basis.

“Authentic” is derived from the Greek authentikós, which means “original”, but just being an original does not mean you will be perceived as authentic. You could be an original phony. There is absolutely no need for you to accept another’s version of you and your life unless you choose to stand there with them and take it on. If you know who you are, you do not need to try and convince another person who you are and what you stand for. Real values go deeper to capture attention and loyalty in the end. There is more to the value proposition than you think. Courageously to show the authenticity you have is the greatest weapon, which appeals to more people and brings us together by reaching out. Numerous imitations are simply all about materials, but an original is the only one that we cannot put a price on. The value that we want now is “the unique” rather than “the best”, and what we really want is what we make us happy. Do not be fake. Do not try to be someone you are not. Just be you!

You might want to skip the 3rd inning. No spoilers but…..

The game is on Sportsnet at 7:00.

You have to like the top of our order:

Rickey Henderson, Devon White and Paul Molitor. I would have rather had Roberto Alomar in the 2 spot, it just would look so much better with 3 Hall of Famers starting things off.

The middle of the order isn’t that bad either: Joe Carter, John Olerud and Roberto Alomar.

Drops off a bit in the bottom: Tony Fernandez, Ed Sprague and Pat Borders. But then Tony hit .306 for the Jays that season and Borders was the World Series MVP the season before.

Stewart won both his starts in the ALCS but ran out of gas. 1994 he had a 5.87 ERA for us.

Later tonight Cuba plays Brazil. If you are watching and want to chat, do it here. After that there is Netherlands and Taiwan. And then, if you don’t feel like sleeping, China and Japan play in the middle of the night.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance First VR Missions DLC Dated for Japan

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance DLC
An update has arrived regarding the VR Missions DLC planned for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The official site has revealed that the first DLC package will be releasing on April 2nd…for Japan though.

Also, for those who already own the Cyborg Ninja skin, you can receive the first DLC pack for free for a limited time from March 14th onwards. This again only applies for Japan.

The first VR missions DLC boasts 30 missions and the “Soul Snake Wooden Sword”, which contains the soul of Solid Snake. Seriously. Missions include Dwarf Gekko-style sneaking and even a neat little Street Fighter-style mission.

We personally can’t wait for the next two packs which let you play as Jetstream Sam and LQ-84i, the cyborg wolf, respectively.

For now, the first pack will be available for 300 yen/$3. Also, the VR missions are exclusive to PS3 in North America, though they will be arriving for Xbox 360 in Latin America and Europe.

Why is the Unreal Engine always the most popular ?

This Gen we've had so many games use Unreal Engine 3 and most games looked pretty much the same graphically. And I'm already seeing so much news about Unreal Engine 4.

How come no other engines are popular and you don't hear as much about them and why do so many companies prefer the Unreal Engine over anyone elses ?

Hancock’s turn as Louisville downs Syracuse

If the tide was going to turn in favor of Syracuse, it was going to happen when James Southerland hit the three-point shot at the 9:21 mark.

He was getting warmed up, or so it seemed, making four three-pointers in the second half.

The 31,173 fans at the Carrier Dome felt it, University of Louisville fans had a sinking sensation with Syracuse claiming a 38-36 lead.

Twenty seconds later, however, Luke Hancock would take advantage of a Brandon Triche lapse on defense, confidently sinking his own three-pointer, UofL reclaiming the lead.

Hancock would have to come through again at the 53-second mark with another three-pointer break a 48-48 tie, putting UofL up to stay 51-48.

This from Eric Crawford:

By now, everybody knows that Hancock’s shooting range is coming around. What they might not know is the effort it takes for Hancock to get to that point.

Every day he comes to the U of L basketball practice facility with an arm so stiff he can’t raise it above his head.

Trainer Fred Hina takes him out onto the court and they do overhead two-hand passes to loosen him up. Then he throws the basketball like a baseball. They do “tissue mobilization.” They do stretching. If you watch Hancock carefully, he’s always moving the shoulder on the bench to try to keep it from tightening back up.

Louisville would make only four field goals in final 9:01, three of them Hancock three-pointers, the other a layup by Gorgui Dieng, the game entering a mostly foul-plagued stage. Syracuse, fortunely, was managing only two field goals. Still another defensive struggle.

Hancock taking his turn on center stage during Louisville’s 58-53 win. It has been a season when the names of players assumiing the leading role have become almost interchangeable.

  • Kevin Ware, with his newfound confidence, continuing to contribute, taking defense seriously, three of four field goal attempts and five rebounds. If Ware keeps raising his playing level, he’s going to become comfortable with being good.
  • Gorgui Dieng becoming more vocal as his college career winds down, giving instructions to his teammates, expecting them to comply. He’s wanting something special for this team. Still another double-double with 14 rebounds, 11 points.
  • Russ Smith playing under control, but ready to go into overdrive at any time, with a game-leading 18 points. Nobody better on the free throw line with a game on the line.
  • Chane Behanan making his presence felt around the basket but not able to get the ball in basket enough. Still hesitating when he does catch the pass. Expect the ball, go to the basket.
  • Peyton Siva, another sub-par game against Syracuse, mostly relegated to the bench during crunch time.  Rick Pitino admitting that his team was better off without him this time around. It’s just Syracuse, Peyton.

Who do you think you are Richard Sennett?

Here is a fascinating lecture by the sociologist Richard Sennett about identity and the city. He explains the difference between boundaries and borders in cities. The former is inert (think security fences, gated communities) the latter is a liminal space, a threshold where people interact. He argues that most 20th century architecture (and urban design) has sought to create boundaries rather than borders. What urban planners need to do, he says, is to create the opposite: “rather than attempt to strengthen communities … what we want to do is strengthen the capacity to experience many different kinds of identities” to create “living edges” to cities rather than inert shells.

Music Monday: “Misleading Flight Music”

Out of the games that I have played Ikaruga is on the higher end of the difficulty scale, right below “I hate my life” and right above “I think I’ve made a mistake playing this game”. Ikaruga was one of the best games to come out for the GameCube and it’s one that will never leave my collection. As much as I like the difficulty the music is what we’re talking about today.

The Chapter 1 song is called Ideal. It’s almost exactly what you’d expect from a futuristic shooter. The song is driven by some factory drums, which isn’t a bad thing and a melody that sounds like it was composed by Motoi Sakuraba (the legend that composed the Tales and Star Ocean series). Too bad this song lulls players into a sense of security, making them feel like they’re about to play any other top-down arcade style shooter then, BAM! They are smacked in the face by unapologetic difficulty. Ikaruga is is hard, but at least the music is catchy enough to make getting your butt whooped feel a little better.

SpaceX Dragon Capsule Glitch (and Recovery) Shows Why Spaceflight Is Hard

[p]

The struggles a private cargo capsule faced in orbit Friday reinforce the notion that spaceflight remains a challenging proposition, experts say.
The unmanned SpaceX Dragon spacecraft launched smoothly atop a Falcon 9 rocket Friday (March 1), but only one of the capsule's four thruster "pods" activated after it reached orbit. After several hours of scrambling to identify the glitch, SpaceX engineers turned the situation around, fixing the problem and bringing all four pods online for an engine burn that set Dragon back on course for the International Space Station.
"Orbit raising burn successful. Dragon back on track," SpaceX founder and CEO Musk wrote in a Twitter post Friday.

[KOTOR] Noobie Companion Skinning

This would be my first post on this forum. Here goes. So I'm slightly new to the idea of modding/skinning KotOR, but, given my previous knowledge of Paint.net and an added texturing tutorial by sir PrtyLizardJedi, I decided to skin some things in the game to add a bit more life to it.
In particular, I thought I would make HK-47 look more menacing, and Jolee a bit more.....sassy and aggressive. xD> There is also a slightly different Zaalbar model I have been unable to screenshot, but there are only slight changes made to him, as well.

Here is the download link if you're interested in acquiring the .tga's:Download Link

If anyone doesn't know how to skin simple things like this already, I strongly recommend going to this tutorial: Here

Architects’ Village?

What if you herded a bunch of architects into one neighborhood and let them loose to design…

It’s been done before. Columbus, Indiana, comes to mind with more than 60 public buildings by signature architects. Ok, it’s a city not a neighborhood, but you get the idea.

Northern Liberties, a late 18th century Philadelphia neighborhood exhibits a high concentration of architect- designed structures blossoming along its comfortably scaled streets. You can’t help noticing, pondering what it means to have so many new, well intentioned buildings jostling each other in one place.

By mid 19th century, Philadelphia had banned certain noxious industries from downtown, relegating them instead to Northern Liberties. Immigrant workers and artisans ensconced themselves and their homes amidst the din and dust of their own livelihood. Remnants of abandoned mills, tanneries, and breweries are now interspersed with old brick row homes standing inhabited and intact.

M1_Houses_1

New residences and commercial properties designed by contemporary architects bring vitality and economic promise to an area of the city that, for many years, was stuck in neutral. The neighborhood has become more intensely gentrified with many cafes, bars, microbreweries, restaurants, outdoor dining, festivals in summer and a retro 1950’s looking bowling alley. A big community garden on grassy, sloping land is a great playground for kids. In short, Northern Liberties is a magnet for resident artists, architects, designers, and other professionals who, in a sense, represent a tie to those workers and artisans of the past.

M2_Corner_1

M3_curved metal_1

M4_Bldg_1

Overall, this enclave of modern architecture can be appreciated or critiqued as a kind of urban experiment in design density. Stylistically, there are common threads. You simply know when you’re in Northern Liberties. Exploration of materials, high-end exterior paneling, and cracked floor plates, so to speak, angling for sunshine and views. Lots of gray metal and tinted stucco. Some natural wood cladding. Perhaps the muted palette is an unconscious nod to Northern Liberties’ industrial history.

M5_composite_1

M6_Towers_1

It has been said that Louis Kahn’s early memories of large, active industrial buildings in Northern Liberties influenced his classic play of monumental volumes and masses. That gritty past doesn’t predominate now though, as mentioned, some rusting hulks remain.

M7_piazza

There are new human-scaled projects that begin to shape outdoor space with a kind of European sensibility. In warm weather this passageway is teeming with people dining outdoors and shopping.

M8_piazza_sharp_1

Northern Liberties renewed is not just about architects or design/builders, however. “There’s nothing original on that building except for the ornamental iron post at the corner,” says Bill Proud, masonry contractor.

M9_Jerry's Bar_1

The Jerry’s Bar building, dating to 1922, had deteriorated badly. Its stucco walls bowed out ominously. Proud took it all down and completely rebuilt the establishment with salvaged bricks, a painted wood cornice he designed himself as well as new white marble lintels to match neighboring houses and working gaslights to add atmosphere. Though it’s true it was a bar originally, even the black and white painted sign is a modern facsimile. If I hadn’t told you beforehand, though, you would have walked on by noting a careful, historic restoration. Authenticity is in the eye of the beholder.

Proud says Jerry’s Bar will open in April.
