Music Monday: “Misleading Flight Music”

Out of the games that I have played Ikaruga is on the higher end of the difficulty scale, right below “I hate my life” and right above “I think I’ve made a mistake playing this game”. Ikaruga was one of the best games to come out for the GameCube and it’s one that will never leave my collection. As much as I like the difficulty the music is what we’re talking about today.

The Chapter 1 song is called Ideal. It’s almost exactly what you’d expect from a futuristic shooter. The song is driven by some factory drums, which isn’t a bad thing and a melody that sounds like it was composed by Motoi Sakuraba (the legend that composed the Tales and Star Ocean series). Too bad this song lulls players into a sense of security, making them feel like they’re about to play any other top-down arcade style shooter then, BAM! They are smacked in the face by unapologetic difficulty. Ikaruga is is hard, but at least the music is catchy enough to make getting your butt whooped feel a little better.
