The folks at AccuWeather must have gotten jealous a short while back when the development team behind The Weather Channel revamped its Android app with a sparkly-clean, new UI. To keep up with the competition, and with the Holo-based styling requirements introduced back when Ice Cream Sandwich first hit the block, AccuWeather has also been treated to a UI makeover, which just rolled out on the Google Play Store this afternoon.
After a quick glance at the comments on the app’s Play Store page, it unfortunately looks like not everyone is please with the new digs, however. As with any new redesign, there will always be mixed opinions. I’ve always been a TWC user myself, but I can say the new UI AccuWeather is sporting doesn’t look all that bad.
One thing that slightly threw me off was the developers’ decision to go with a green-colored trim, and not the traditional ICS/JB Blue that we’ve come to love so much since we first laid eyes on it. Yes. The new look is definitely Holo, but it does give off a rather “Android Market” look and feel, for those of you who’ve been around long enough to remember the good ol’ Market, back before it was renamed the Play Store.
Here’s the full changelog for the inquiring mind:
AccuWeather 3.0.1
- Completely redesigned for tablets and phones, with landscape & portrait modes
- NEW! Multi-location, resizable widgets with more detail.
- NEW! Customizable My AccuWeather forecasts.

- Please re-add widgets.
And here’s a sneak peak at the new look from a few screenshots I took the liberty of capturing myself:
