the plan is to day time fish, rod is a 80 class bent but trolling rod with 80wide 2 speed penn. My question for today is regarding rod holder depth. I am replacing one of my port side gunnel rod holders with a swivel base holder for the sword rod. I have ordered a 2.25" by 9" deep holder, the 6.5" is what I had there before (only 2" too) and I could tell there was going to be way too much leverage on my gunnels (flexed when I pulled down on rod with 30 lbs drag). There is a extra deep version that would have the rod sitting almost as deep as the bend int he rod. While that seems better for strength of the setup, it puts the reel a little low for ergonomics. thoughts? feedback?
